Giving For Good Dollars Used to Purchase Items for Non-profits Serving Individuals Impacted by COVID-19

SEFCU is on a mission to give back every single day of the year, and now more than ever with our communities challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are responding to the emergent needs of non-profits throughout SEFCU’s four regions (Capital Region, Southern Tier, Central NY and Western NY). Non-profits serving youth and families are experiencing higher volumes than usual due to more people visiting their shelters and support service organizations. In March, we immediately responded by purchasing items in most need for these organizations with allocating over $6,000 of Giving for Good dollars to purchase items for organizations serving additional individuals due to loss of wages and other challenges.

As the pandemic unfolded throughout Upstate New York, supplies to help non-profits serve those looking for personal care items became harder and harder to find.

“Thank you to SEFCU for this incredible donation of supplies that will no doubt relieve some stress as we look ahead," said Bonnie St. Onge, Director of Development for Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless. “Our entire team has been on the lookout for supplies and they were nowhere to be found. Thank you for being one step ahead and arranging for a very thoughtful delivery which helped our Albany and Amsterdam team immediately.”

Along with donations of supplies to IPH, a full list of the organizations that received much needed supplies can be found below:
•    Unity House: Feminine hygiene products, soap, detergent, diapers, formula
•    CEO: Diapers, formula, baby wipes, baby soap
•    Danielle's House: Detergent, soap, deodorant, diapers
•    South End Children's Café: Meal storage containers
•    Response to Love Center: Diapers, formula, baby wash
•    Samaritan Center: Soap, deodorant, shaving cream, toothpaste, shampoo
•    YWCA: Diapers, feminine hygiene products, soap, deodorant, baby formula, shampoo, baby wash

This was just the first response effort with donated supplies. SEFCU will continue to help people in need throughout these challenging times. What is the Giving for Good program? It is comprised of SEFCU members and staff donating a minimum of $1 per month to the SEFCU Foundation. Join us in Giving for Good and we'll transfer the funds from your account automatically each month. Think about it - for just $12 a year, you'll be part of SEFCU's mission to change lives every day.
